Once again we were pleased with the Emperor at Caesars Gauteng, part of a large 1.3 billion rand hotel and entertainment complex. Its location near Johannesburg International Airport , Italian Empire décor, gate and hotel security, quiet and elegant style and welcoming staff were a winning combination for us. An added bonus was the access to a health club, spa, casino, and exhibition and business center in the adjacent Emperor complex.

The Seychelles are pretty islands with tropical weather and landscapes. Compared with destinations such as the Caribbean or the Maldives, the Seychelles was disappointing. Compared with other properties we visited, the Plantation Club was decent. By worldwide standards, we found it wanting. If we had to go to the Seychelles again for some reason, this hotel would be an acceptable place to stay.

Overall thumbs up. Royal Island Maldives is an especially good property for those wishing to get away to an exotic, luxurious, comfortable island hotel with good service, excellent diving and snorkeling. Compared to the prices and quality accommodations in other island destinations, we found the Maldives to be a good value. The people are friendly and service oriented, the locations spectacular and the pace leisurely.

Though the Cullinan Waterfront was not the most luxurious hotel in Cape Town, it is well placed for the business I was conducting in the City Center. It was a short walk down the waterfront to most of the business locations I needed to go to, and had a wonderful view of Table Mountain. They had excellent security staff with a visible presence all the way around the hotel, and helpful staff at the concierge desk. The view of the harbor was also excellent, the QE III showed up while I was there and it was visible from my window. The famous Cape Town W&A Waterfront was just a few blocks away and a cab ride to the table top mountain took 15 minutes. The service at the hotel was very good and the rooms comfortable and functional.
