Overall Impression We found the Steigenberger, a historic and elegant hotel dating back to the early 1900’s, a welcome respite. In the heart of Düsseldorf and across the street from the Opera, the Hotel was ideally situated for a visit to the central part of town. Owned by the Steigenberger chain, it offered a combination of charm, experienced and efficient staff, and a great location. 
 The lobby and common areas were posh with an old Europe feel. Our room was stylish and quiet, a valuable commodity in any city center. Our small bathroom was modern looking and spotless. Menuett, the highly rated restaurant in the lobby, made our brief stay ever more enjoyable.

			Lobby And Common Areas : Furnished partly with antiques in a classic European style. In addition to the elevator, a staircase connected the floors. The lobby was bright and welcoming, flanked on one side by a bar and a lounge on the other. 
		
		
			Bathroom : A small and renovated contemporary European style bathroom with attractive marble tile floor was adjacent to the entrance to the room. It included a bath and shower combination with half a door enclosure. 
		
		
			Room Our quiet and comfortable 30 square-meter (approximately 300 square feet) “comfort plus” room was decorated in peach and bronze colors. It had a high ceiling and faced an inner courtyard. Though the view was limited, the room offered much needed silence. Furniture included a desk in one corner, a night table on each side of the bed, a dresser and television. At the entrance to the room and in front of the entrance to the bathroom, there was a closet with full-length mirrors on the doors and an electronic safe inside. 
		
		
			Food And Restaurants Menuett, a gourmet restaurant, was open to hotel guests and the public; the lounge served lighter fare. Room service was another option.

Other The Steigenberger was well positioned for shopping enthusiasts. For workouts, it had an agreement that allowed its guests to exercise at a nearby gym (day ticket cost was 20 Euros). The Hotel was part of a chain of more than 50 hotels in Germany , Austria , Switzerland , The Netherlands, Spain and Egypt .

Service The service staff we encountered were polite and efficient. An example of their attention to guests’ needs was how they looked after us during our departure. As soon as we completed the checkout, we turned toward the exit. By the time we arrived, the doorman had a taxi waiting for us. A bellman was there with an umbrella to make sure we did not get wet even though there was a covered area adjacent to the entrance.
