Overall impression: How do you know if a checked luggage lock works? Presumably if your suitcases arrive unopened and with the lock still on them. Ours did on eight domestic flights. The Travel Sentry™ four-dial brass lock was easy to set up and use. The dark color blended well with our luggage. Mostly, it was good to be able to lock our suitcases again.
In the last few years, security issues have prevented travelers from locking their luggage. A new generation of security devices, more than one million, allow travelers to lock their suitcases with a Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) approved mechanism. The Travel Sentry™ lock design makes it possible for the traveler to lock his or her bag, while letting TSA authorized staff open and re-close the lock by means of special access tools. We had an opportunity to talk with a security agent at one airport. He was accustomed to and welcomed luggage with the approved locks such as ours.
On a recent trip, when we arrived from the airport, we found a note in the suitcase indicating that it had been searched by TSA. They had opened the Travel Sentry lock and replaced it securely.
