Overall: Palm Beach can refer to either the county or the town. The town is located on an island situated along the Intracoastal Waterway of Florida. This island divides the area between the waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. The entire Atlantic coast of Palm Beach is one long beautiful beach lined with condominiums and mansions. The town is home to the rich and famous, and the stores and restaurants they love to frequent during the winter season.

The county is named for the town and stretches from the ocean to the everglades along an area lined with over 47 miles of beaches. The weather is mild and the pace is a bit more relaxed than Miami to the south. Palm Beach County stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the everglades and the shores of Lake Okeechobee.

Challenges:Growth is a real challenge to the quality of life in Palm Beach County. As one of the fastest growing areas in the United States, approximately six new  people move into Palm Beach County each day. As the land is squeezed between the ocean and the agricultural reserve (designed to buffer the everglades from development), the pressure is constant to develop more land.

Advantages:Warm weather year round, tempered by the ocean breezes and summer rains. The landscaping stays green all year, and Palm Beach County is one of a small number of subtropical areas in the United States.

Shopping:The shopping in the town of Palm Beach is very upscale, sort of a miniature "rodeo drive", especially during the season in the winter. Several large malls and hundreds of smaller strip shopping centers provide a wide variety of shopping for almost any taste.
