Tourism for Tomorrow

Kathy's Gazebo Cafe

 Kathy's Gazebo Cafe

Overall impression: The overall experience was disappointing. The staff was surly; either inexperienced or disinterested, apparently taking customer demand for granted (it was a full restaurant on a weekend night at the end of the season) and the food was overrated and of wildly variable quality.

Location: Boca Raton, FL (USA)

Type of restaurant: French/continental

Class of restaurant: Expensive

Décor/ambiance: Classical European though a bit worn in places

Wine selection and prices: Somewhat limited, particularly for non-U.S. vintages. The waiter did not even offer a wine list. The delivery of key items like wine and drinks seemed random and haphazard, rather than nicely choreographed, as you would expect from a restaurant of this apparent caliber.

Cocktail selection and prices: Reasonable selection and prices

Quality of food: At best mixed. One foie gras special was flavorful, but the other appetizer was not prepared well. The sauces lacked refinement and the flavors were not in harmony.

Cost: Expensive, especially considering the quality. One could eat lunch at a three star French restaurant for the cost of this meal.

Service: The staff was not attentive and as previously mentioned, did not orchestrate the meal well. It appeared that the staff merely brings out food when it is ready, not when the diners have finished their courses. The wine did not arrive until the entree was already on the table, because the steward never offered the list, we had to call him over and request it.

Reservations required: yes, particularly during the winter season

Ease of making reservations: Once season is ended, easy, otherwise a few days in advance

Number of visits: One

Would you eat there again: No

Would you recommend it: No
