Overall impression   Our interest in St. Martin, St. Barts & Anguilla Alive! was centered around the St. Barts section which appeared in pages 1-124. We were planning a trip to St. Barts and found this to be the most current book on the topic. We liked the book’s casual tone, candid opinions and useful tips. Some of the information, especially for restaurants, is past its optimum date (for example Francois Plantation listed as one of the top restaurants on the island was closing its restaurant during our visit); and we would have liked more website and email addresses for hotel s, restaurants and attractions.   Otherwise, the information included is short and sweet including descriptions of St. Barts main towns, beaches and their characteristics, practical information for accommodations, shopping, home and car rentals, sports, attractions, fitness and spa centers and activities available.

Although, there are six pages of color photos in the middle of the book, most are photos of St. Martin and only two are of St. Barts locations. Accommodations are divided into Best Hotels, Small Hotels & Inns and Villa Rentals. The villa section lists rental agencies; there is no information on specific villas.   Restaurant descriptions are divided into: Exceptional Dining Spots, Lunch at the Beach, and All Day Restaurants. There is also information on places to hang out, go for a drink, listen to music, go dancing, and catch a movie; and a practical information section called “St. Barts A to Z.”   The book was a useful reference during our trip. We will keep it in our collection in case we visit St. Barts , St. Martin or Anguilla in the near future.
